Piekenierskloof Vrugte (Pty) Ltd commenced with the enlargement of Namaquasfontein Skool dam, located on Portion 4 of Namaquasfontein Farm Number 76 in Piketberg. The original volume of the dam was approximately 1000 m3 which was enlarged to a 47 000 m3 storage capacity, and a wall height of 6.2 m in 2017. The footprint of the enlarged dam included approximately 3,6 ha of indigenous vegetation. The dam is an off-channel dam with no catchment area and only filled from a pipeline from the Krom-Antonies River and existing boreholes. No Environmental Authorisation was obtained prior to commencement of construction. The Applicant now wishes to complete the enlargement of the dam from 47 000 m3 to a storage capacity of 200 000 m3, with a wall height of 11.5 m and a surface area of approximately 3.3 ha, and subject to the approval of environmental authorisation.

Holland & Associates Environmental Consultants has been appointed by Piekenierskloof Vrugte (Pty) Ltd to undertake the requisite Environmental Impact Assessment process for the project (in this case a Section 24G process) in accordance with the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (No. 107 of 1998), as amended, EIA Regulations (2014).
