Riviera Trust commenced with and stopped the construction of Riviera Dam, located on Portions 3 and 6 of Farm Wilgenhoutdrift No. 48, near Piketberg, during the course of 2017. The partially built dam has a wall height of approximately 5.5m and the storage capacity of approximately 70 500m3. No Environmental Authorisation was obtained prior to commencement of construction. The Applicant now wishes to complete the dam which would have an approximate wall height of 10.7m and storage capacity of 400 000m3. A 250mm diameter water supply pipeline approximately 0.5km in length would be installed between the existing D4 Dam (Boonzaaier Dam) and the completed Riviera Dam, subject to the approval of Environmental Authorisation.
Holland & Associates Environmental Consultants has been appointed by Riviera Trust to undertake the requisite Environmental Impact Assessment process for the project (in this case a Section 24G process) in accordance with the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (No. 107 of 1998), as amended, EIA Regulations (2014).
