BASIC IMPACT ASSESSMENT REPORTING PROCESS:

DEA&DP Ref No.: 16/3/3/6/7/1/B2/32/1376/22

Heritage Western Cape Ref No.: 20021206AS0213E

Deorista 113 (Pty) Ltd (hereafter referred to as “the Applicant”) proposes to enlarge an existing dam of 12 100 m3 to a maximum storage capacity of 155 000 m³ as well as to increase the agricultural area by 19.79 ha on Farm 2/899 Bernheim. The proposed dam enlargement would require the construction of a pipeline across Farm RE/899 from the Breede River water supply scheme. The total proposed project footprint (i.e the proposed dam enlargement and associated infrastructure, as well as the proposed agricultural expansion areas) would entail a maximum of 17.3 ha of clearance of indigenous vegetation. The farms are located approximately 10 km east of Worcester in the Over-Hex area, within the Breede Valley Local Municipality in the Western Cape Province.

Holland & Associates Environmental Consultants (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by the Applicant to undertake the requisite Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the proposed project (in this case, a Basic Assessment Reporting (BAR) process) in accordance with the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (No. 107 of 1998) EIA Regulations (2014), as amended. DJ Hagen & Associates (Pty) Ltd. is the consulting engineer for the proposed project. HDL Consulting has been appointed to undertake the WULA.

The draft Basic Assessment Report has been made available to the public for review for a 30-day comment period and is downloadable via the link below.
