(DEA&DP Ref No: E12/2/4/6-B3/28-1054/11)
The Drakenstein Municipality are applying for an amendment of the Environmental Authorisation, issued on 12 April 2010, in terms of Section 40 of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998), for the proposed Paarl South gravity outfall sewer. The proposed amendments include the following:
- Proposed re-alignment of an approximately 300m section of the pipeline in the vicinity of Lady Grey Street, Textile Street and the Berg River in Paarl, to make construction easier, less costly and to reduce disruption to existing services, businesses and traffic during the construction phase.
- Shifting the proposed Palmiet River pipeline crossing approximately 10m to the west of the approved alignment (approximately 15m downstream of where the Palmiet River and the Paarl –Wellington Railway cross), with associated amendments to the detailed design for the river crossing.
- Updating Condition of Authorisation 12 and the associated Appendix A of the Environmental Authorisation, to include the latest findings and mitigation measures put forward in the specialist aquatic ecology study undertaken for the subject amendment application process.
